About Us

1st Troon Company of Boys Brigade

1st Troon Boys Brigade is part of Ayr Batallion.  We are one of the largest BB Companies in Scotland with approximately 170 boys from Primary 2 to final year at High School.  The Anchor Boy Section which caters for Primary 2, 3 and 4 meets Fridays in St Meddans Church Halls from 7 - 8:10 pm.  Junior Section caters for Primary 5, 6 and 7 and meets in Portland Parish Church Halls from 7 - 8:30 pm.  Our Company section which is for S1 to S6 meets in Troon Old Parish Church from 7 - 9:30 pm.

1st Troon Boys Brigade Pipe Band

Boys start tuition once they join Junior Section.  They have the option to start pipes (on chanter) or drums (stick and pad) and all items of equipment are provided free of charge.  The band is fortunate that it has a small but dedicated group of instructors that give of their time and talents free of charge.  Tuition is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm in Troon Old Parish Church Halls.

As their skills develop they will be given the chance to move on to pipes and drums and once competent they will then be issued with their kilts so that they can play together as a band.  For the quicker learners this may take as little as 2 years but there is no pressure on the boys and they learn at their own pace.  Receiving their kilt is a major achievement and will normally occur just before a public performance - normally Wintertainment or the Boys Brigade Band Championships.

The tartan that the band wears and which provides the background to the web pages is Muted McNaughton.

The band relies entirely on donations and fund raising and performs at many local events such as the Troon Mini Fair, Wintertainment, Loans Gala and many of the school fetes.  These are great opportunities for the boys to play in front of friends and families and at the same time help to raise funds.

We have more than 50 boys receiving instruction and the band continues to go from strength to strength.
